The Consular Corps of Indianapolis
The Consular Corps of Indianapolis (CCI) consists of 14 Consulates. Together, they are an important component of our international community and the foundation of our diplomatic relationships.
The ranking member of the CCI is the Consul of Mexico in Indianapolis. The Consul of Mexico is the only member of the CCI who is a career diplomat and an employee of a foreign government. The remaining consuls hold honorary but official positions. The honorary Consuls are representatives of Brazil, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Switzerland, and Ukraine.
An honorary consul is a citizen or lawful permanent resident of the United States who has been authorized by a foreign government to perform official functions on its behalf within the United States. Honorary consuls are nominated for the position by other countries’ officials but cannot serve until they have been approved by the U.S. State Department. For more information on the process of being appointed as an honorary consul, please visit state.gov.
The mission of the members of the Consular Corps of Indianapolis is to assist the country they represent in developing friendly relations with the Indianapolis community, and in particular to promote cooperation in matters involving diplomacy, business, education, science, culture, tourism and other fields of international interest. The Consular Corps of Indianapolis is a group of highly respected leaders in our community that strengthens our global connections. The International Center provides regular support to the Consular Corps.
