By 2030, the U.S. Census projects that immigration will be the primary driver of population growth in the country. This is also reflected in immigrant population trends in Marion Country. According to the 2022 Census, approximately 10%of the Marion County population was foreign born, demonstrating a steady growth since 2015 (8%). In 2018, over 30%of Marion County immigrants had limited English language proficiency, demonstrating the need for culturally sensitive and language accessible programming (New American Economy Research Fund, 2020). In order to promote inclusivity and community engagement within the diverse demographic makeup of Indianapolis, this event allows us to strengthen bonds through an intercultural exchange and inspire future generations to learn more about cultures outside of their own experience.
