Project Coordinator, Indiana Language Roadmap

 

As the inaugural proposal development specialist for the IU School of Education, Dr. Teresa Nichols supports faculty and staff efforts to improve teaching, learning, and human development in a global, diverse, rapidly changing, and increasingly technological society by improving the funding available to support various initiatives. She has a Ph.D. and M.A. in Anthropology from Indiana University and has longstanding research interests in project management, international development, cultural heritage preservation, and Indigenous rights.

Previously as the Associate Director of the IU Center for the Study of Global Change, she oversaw grant writing, implementation, financial expenditures, and reporting; organized and managed U.S. Department of Education-funded National Resource Center programming and the Indiana Language Roadmap initiative; and led the Global Service and Peace Corps Preparation program by teaching its capstone course and advising undergraduate students. As the Project Manager and Postdoctoral Research Fellow for the National Science Foundation-funded “Learning NAGPRA: Resources for Teaching and Training” project at Indiana University, Dr. Nichols designed, conducted, analyzed, and published research studies on educational praxis relating to ethics and working with Indigenous communities and facilitated the collaborative development of educational materials.

She received a Fulbright IIE research fellowship to conduct dissertation fieldwork in Mongolia and has also held positions at IU’s Inner Asian and Uralic National Resource Center, IU’s Department of Anthropology, the Arts Council of Mongolia, and the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History.
