More than 650,000 Rohingya have crossed into Bangladesh from Burma, to escape genocide and persecution, since August 2017. Headquartered in Indianapolis, OBAT is one of the humanitarian organizations that are actively working on the ground in the Kutupalong Refugee camp- the largest refugee camp in the world which now altogether houses more than a million Rohingya refugees, living in a sprawling tent city. To combat the horrendous conditions faced by these refugees, OBAT has held medical camps, built bridges and medical centers, constructed 18 learning centers for children (with a plan to build 100) and also community centers to ease their suffering. Strengthened by the volunteers from all over the world and the local partners who are coming forth to help, OBAT is making palpable progress. More hands and resources are needed to address a crisis of this scale. This event will feature speaker, Masum M. Mahbub from OBAT’s board of directors. He will share the firsthand account of his recent visit to the Rohingya camps. Stories of the victims will be shared through videos and photographs taken by OBAT staff and volunteers.
