Indianapolis Sister Cities Program Wins Sister Cities International’s Innovation Award
(WASHINGTON, DC – June 11, 2015) . . . Indianapolis Sister Cities International (ISCI), directed by the Mayor’s Office of International and Cultural Affairs in partnership with The International Center, has won this year’s Innovation Award for Arts and Culture from the Sister Cities International’s (SCI) Annual Awards for a city with a population greater than 500,001.
The Annual Awards Program, established in 1962, showcases the achievements of standout sister city programs and brings international recognition to communities’ contribution to citizen diplomacy.
Sister Cities International recognized ISCI for its success with the 2014 Sister Cities Fest in Indianapolis, a free cultural street festival held to help promote the culture of the eight sister cities which enjoy formal relationships with Indianapolis. The festival includes international performances, live-music, and sports with the goal of teaching people more about international cultures in general, and Indianapolis’s sister cities in particular. Last year’s Sister Cities Fest brought in a profit over $16,000 which fund scholarships for Marion County youth to attend the Sister Cities International – Youth Summit as well as helps fund various programs and initiatives for the promotion of a global Indianapolis.
Indianapolis Sister Cities International will receive their award in Minneapolis, Minnesota at Sister Cities International’s 59th Annual Conference on July 18.
The 2015 Sister Cities Fest will be on September 19 from Noon – 5:00 p.m. on Georgia Street in downtown Indianapolis. This is a free, family friendly event.
