Community Partners
The International Center is a proud supporter and partner of Indiana’s international community.
Indianapolis Sister Cities International
Through the Office of Protocol, the Center continues to be a partner of the Indianapolis Sister Cities International program through the Mayor’s Office of International and Cultural Affairs. In 2014, The Center was recognized with an Outstanding Community Partner Award at a Sister Cities Celebration.
Today, Indianapolis has relationships with nine Sister Cities including Taipei, Taiwan; Cologne, Germany; Monza, Italy; Piran, Slovenia; Hangzhou, China; Campinas, Brazil; Northamptonshire County, United Kingdom; Hyderabad, India; and Onitsha, Nigeria. If you would like to learn more about Indianapolis’s Sister City relationships, or if you would like to get involved with any of the Sister City Committees, we invite you to visit the Mayor’s Office of International and Cultural Affairs.
Naturalization Ceremonies
The Center has the opportunity to honor the eldest citizen at every Naturalization ceremony for the Southern District of Indiana. These ceremonies are held approximately 35 times per year.
The eldest citizen being naturalized is recognized during the ceremony by an International Center staff member or intern and presented with the gift of an American flag that has flown been over the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. The Center’s involvement in these ceremonies is done in memory of Toni Cordingley, a municipal court judge in Indianapolis who was also a naturalized citizen as well as a beloved member of The Center’s Board of Directors.
LUNA Language Services
Although The International Center was originally created to provide interpretation services to the Indianapolis area, it is a service we no longer provide within the organization. Our trusted community partner for this need is LUNA Language Services, who provides on site interpreting, remote interpreting and document translation. For more information, visit their website.
