The 73rd Anniversary of the Union Day of Myanmar
February 12 will mark the 73rd Anniversary of the signing of Panglong Agreement in 1947 in Myanmar (also known as Burma). For the fourth year, the Myanmar communities residing in Indianapolis are joining their counterparts inside Myanmar and in the diaspora around the world in honoring this historic political achievement for Myanmar and its people.
Myanmar Union Day observation in Indianapolis this year will feature Cultural Dances, an Ethnic Fashion Show, Music, Food & more. The event is open to the public and all of our friends, neighbors and fellow citizens are invited.
The aim of the 2020 Myanmar Union Day observation in the USA is:
- To share and celebrate cultural diversity, and historical heritage; whereby promoting a greater understanding among receiving and incoming communities towards a successful and sustainable integration;
- To provide a common platform for all communities from Burma/Myanmar and to promote greater engagement and unity among all ethnic and religious groups from Burma/Myanmar;
- To serve as an avenue for all youths from Myanmar to inclusively engage and share through fun and interactive cultural and entertainment activities as part of preserving one’s cultural and historical heritage as well as to provide leadership development opportunities; and
- To once again reaffirm the support for federalist democracy, freedom, and equality in Burma/Myanmar based on the Panlong spirits and principles; and provide moral and other support for the ongoing National Reconciliation & Peace Process – 21st Century Panlong – towards comprehensive Constitutional reforms, inclusive economic development, and prosperity in the Southeast Asian Nation.
