Perry Cultural Festival

April 29, 2017 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm

- Free

The annual Perry Cultural Festival honors a variety of cultures through art, music, dance, food trucks, soccer/futsal activities, games and crafts on April 29, 2017 from 11 am to 3 pm at the Baxter Y, 7900 South Shelby, Indianapolis.  Rain or shine, admission is free for a day of family-friendly fun and learning as activities highlight the collective and individual roots of the residents of Perry Township, with a special emphasis on cultural “Celebrations!”

In partnership with the Baxter Y, University of Indianapolis, and Perry Township Schools, gratitude goes to The Festival Fund via The International Center, Indianapolis Foundation and Christel DeHaan Family Foundation; Franciscan St. Francis Alliance; Greater Southside Business Alliance; Indiana Futsal; Indy Eleven; and all our terrific volunteers!

The day will begin with our flag ceremony featuring 67 flags representing the birth countries of Perry Township Schools students. Our entertainers will be as diverse as their interactive presentations: Mary Bryan Mary Minstrels songs of unity, Abraham Lincoln 5th grade drum corps rhythms in different cultures, dancers from the Chin and Indian communities, Native American drum presentation, to name a few. And what would a cultural celebration be without a session of Zumba?!

In the Baxter Y pavilion, there will be an art show featuring our local students, along with essays, poetry and a video presentation about cultural celebrations. Come add your voice to our culture wall, “map your journey” as you show us your country of origin, and learn about making a mandala!

Our Kids Zone will provide games and crafts from around the world, all focused around obtaining stamps for a “passport” as they travel through the festival. Explore the sounds of musical instruments from other countries, while food trucks and craft vendors bring the essence of culture to our culinary and consumer palates.
