Russian School of Indiana (RSI) has been in operation since 1993 and the Russian-American Cultural Center (RACC) was founded in 2013 and incorporates the school. The mission of the RACC and RSI is to expand educational and cultural opportunities and build a global community in Indiana regardless of people’s place of origin. For the past two years, the Russia Festival has been an event for the Indianapolis community to come together to learn about and celebrate Russian culture.
This year, Festival go-ers will be introduced to Russia culture and can participate in the following activities:
- Indulge in Russian food (pirogi, bliny, borsh, stuffed cabbage, Russian potato salad, etc.)
- Admire the Russian artists demonstrating and selling their art and crafts
- Kids can learn how to write your name in Russian, paint the Russian nested doll, take picture in Russian national costume or with Matreshka and participate in a Russian cooking workshop
- Performances will include children performing folk Russian songs and dances, a professional dance group from Cincinnati, Ballet International and more!
There will also be a documentary about Russian cities and geography as well as a panel discussion related to Russian life and growing up in the Soviet Union.
