Walk in a Refugee’s Shoes (WRS) is an immersive experience that offers an opportunity to step into the shoes of displaced individuals who have had to leave their homes and seek refuge in a new land. This powerful experience sheds light on refugees’ challenges during the vetting and resettlement process while highlighting their resilience, hopes, and hardships. While we may never fully grasp their journey, WRS is vital to fostering empathy, awareness, anda more welcoming and compassionate community.
Participants receive an identity card with the name, country of origin, and background of a real refugee. They then navigate stations representing a border crossing, water and food distribution, medical care, and housing. At each station, they encounter the frustrations and challenges that refugees face daily. The hour ends with reflecting on the experience and ways to assist refugees and internally displaced persons.
