Join WFYI Public Media filmmakers, Confucius Institute of Indianapolis, and IUPUI’s Office of International Affairs for a film premiere of Waves of Fortune: China’s Maritime Silk Road. The event will feature a Q&A following the 30-minute film with WFYI filmmakers and narrator Ian McIntosh.
In Waves of Fortune, anthropologist Ian McIntosh of IUPUI’s Office of International Affairs takes viewers on a fascinating trip to some of the key historical sites along the Maritime Silk Road, where he reveals links between the past and the present. Throughout its long history, China has alternately opened its borders and walled itself off from the outside world. Ports in southern China anchored the Maritime Silk Road as it became a melting pot of cultures, religions, and exotic goods.
A reception honoring the filmmakers will follow at Confucius Institute (Cavanaugh Hall 129, 425 University Blvd) beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Waves of Fortune: China’s Maritime Silk Road will air on WFYI 1 on Thursday, October 12 at 7:30pm, with production by Sandy Roob, videography and editing by Vinnie Manganello, and logistical planning and translation by Dr. Zao Cheng Xu.
