International Visitor Programs
The International Visitor Leadership Program is a professional exchange program initiated by the U.S. Department of State. Through short-term visits to the United States, current and emerging leaders in a variety of fields experience the United States first-hand and cultivate lasting relationships with their American counterparts.

Getting Involved with the IVLP
Hoosiers can volunteer their time and talent in partnership with The International Center to help welcome international visitors to Indianapolis and Indiana. These special volunteers are given the title of “citizen diplomats,” and they play a major role in creating quality experiences for international visitors. Here are a few ways you can partner in citizen diplomacy with the Center:
Be a professional resource. Do you have experience in a particular field that relates to the theme of a participant’s visit? Meet with visitors to discuss your knowledge and experiences.
Host a hospitality dinner. Welcome international visitors into your home to enjoy a friendly cultural exchange over a shared meal.
Become an International Visitor Program Guide. Over the course of a participant’s visit, serve as a guide to accompany visitors to new places in Indiana, primarily throughout greater Indianapolis.
