Volunteer

Many of The International Center’s programs depend on the generosity of our volunteers. Those interested in becoming involved can learn more about the volunteer opportunities available through The Center below.

Volunteer Opportunities

International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP)

The International Visitor Leadership Program is a professional exchange program initiated by the U.S. Department of State. Through short-term visits to the United States, current and emerging leaders in a variety of fields experience the United States first-hand and cultivate lasting relationships with their American counterparts. Professional meetings throughout their visit reflect the participants’ professional interests and support the foreign policy goals of the United States. How volunteers can help:

  • Be a professional resource.  Do you have experience in a particular field that relates to the theme of a participant’s visit? Meet with visitors to learn more about your field from the perspective of a non-U.S. citizen and discuss your own knowledge and experiences.
  • Host a hospitality dinner. Welcome international visitors into your home to enjoy a friendly cultural exchange over a shared meal. Typically a favorite experience of the visitors.
  • Become an International Visitor Program Guide. Over the course of a participant’s visit, serve as a guide to accompany visitors to new places in Indiana, primarily throughout greater Indianapolis.
Events

The International Center periodically holds events that require volunteers, including our International Citizen of the Year Award Dinner. The success of these events could not be possible without assistance from volunteers!
