THE INTERNATIONAL CENTER ANNOUNCES NEW LEADERSHIP PROGRAM NAMED IN HONOR OF JIM MORRIS
(Indianapolis – May 1, 2020) – The International Center has announced the new James T. Morris Global Leadership Series, Indiana’s first and only program of its kind. Applications to participate in the program, which will begin in August, are available on The Center’s website between May 1 and June 15.
The program is named for Indiana’s own Jim Morris in honor of his decades of global leadership, including his current presidentially appointed role as the U.S. representative on the executive board of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). Morris has also served as executive director of the United Nations World Food Program and UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Southern Africa, where he brought UN and humanitarian agencies together to address issues affecting more than 15 million people worldwide.
In 1973, Morris was chief of staff for former Indianapolis mayor Richard G. Lugar, who is credited with the vision for The International Center. Morris has also served for many years as a board member and remains a supporter of and trusted advisor to The Center.
The James T. Morris Global Leadership Series is a five-month professional development program for Hoosiers who demonstrate business or civic leadership with a global component. Inspired by Morris’ vast experience as well as The Center’s mission to support global initiatives across public, private and civic sectors, the sessions will discuss global leadership across government, business and humanitarian efforts.
Each monthly full-day session will expand participants’ cultural knowledge through a collaborative curriculum featuring keynote speakers, panelists, facilitated dialogue and activities. Hosts for each of the monthly sessions will be high profile organizations that play a key role in Indiana’s global landscape.
“We are thrilled to expand our professional services to offer this five-month series,” says Martin Baier, president and CEO of The International Center. “We are looking forward to bringing together the first-ever Morris Series cohort to inform, convene and connect global leadership across our state.”
The Morris Series is $995 per participant. Limited full and partial scholarships are available. To learn more about the program and access the online application, please visit internationalcenter.org/morris-series.
