THE INTERNATIONAL CENTER POSTPONES INTERNATIONAL CITIZEN OF THE YEAR AWARD DINNER AND PROGRAM
(INDIANAPOLIS – July 1, 2020) – The International Center has postponed the International Citizen of the Year (ICY) award dinner and program previously scheduled for September 29, 2020, out of an abundance of concern for the safety and wellbeing of the honoree, program participants, and invited guests.
The International Citizen of the Year Award honors individuals whose work has achieved global impact and elevated Indiana on the world stage. Dan Coats, an American statesman and former diplomat, was announced as the 2020 ICY honoree in February. Senator Coats will be honored at the rescheduled ICY event.
The finalists for the Global Impression Award (GIA) will be announced in fall of 2020, and the recipient of the GIA award will be announced at the postponed ICY event.
“Though we’re understandably disappointed, we take the safety, health and comfort of our stakeholders very seriously,” said Martin Baier, president and CEO of The International Center. “We are confident we made the right decision, and we are already looking forward to the rescheduled event.”
“We are excited about the opportunity to host a spectacular event in late April or early May that properly honors Senator Coats and celebrates The International Center,” added Julie Griffith, board chair of The International Center and co-chair of the ICY event.
The date for the rescheduled ICY event will be announced soon and is expected to take place in spring 2021.
