(INDIANAPOLIS – September 17, 2021) — The International Center presented the 2021 International Citizen of the Year (ICY) award to Dan Coats during its annual award dinner at the Indiana Roof Ballroom on Tuesday, September 14.
The Center’s Board of Directors selected Dan Coats in February of 2020 to be honored with the award. Coats, a public servant for over 26 years, was honored for his influence in international policy for Indiana and the United States throughout his career.
Governor Eric Holcomb, longtime friend of Coats and former chief of staff during one of his senate terms, presented the award. Governor Holcomb himself was honored as International Citizen of the Year in 2018.
The event also honored Andrea Richter-Garry, vice president of international engagement for the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC), with the Global Impression Award (GIA).
Richter-Garry heads IEDC’s international business development team, which includes 7 international offices around the globe, and manages foreign government relationships for the state of Indiana.
Priscila Vansetti, director of global strategy and business development at Corteva Agriscience and board chair of The International Center, said, “We have been eager to honor Dan with this award, and the event on Tuesday did not disappoint. It was an honor to showcase all the many facets of Dan’s long career as an international citizen.”
“And the opportunity to celebrate one of Indiana’s brightest global leaders still in the early years of her career gives us hope for the future. Congratulations to Andrea and the rest of the Global Impression Award finalists.” Vansetti added.
The other Global Impression Award finalists were Andrew Crecelius, who recently became a foreign service officer for the U.S. Department of State and Nick Reich, president of the Rotary Club of Indianapolis. Richter-Garry is the third winner of the Global Impression Award, which was first established in 2018.
Call for nominations for the 2022 Global Impression Award will be available on The International Center’s website in the spring of 2022.
