THE INTERNATIONAL CENTER ANNOUNCES DATE FOR 2023 INTERNATIONAL CITIZEN OF THE YEAR HONORING INDIANAPOLIS MOTOR SPEEDWAY
(INDIANAPOLIS – June 1, 2023) – The International Center will host its annual International Citizen of the Year fundraising event on October 3, 2023. The event will take place at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, days before the Indianapolis 8 Hour race, an Intercontinental GT Challenge event.
The International Citizen of the Year award honors individuals whose work has achieved global impact and elevated Indiana on the world stage. Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) was announced as the 2023 recipient in March.
“Indianapolis Motor Speedway has made Indianapolis and the entire state of Indiana synonymous with the auto racing industry,” said Sarah Iglehart, senior vice president of regional economic development at Indy Chamber and board chair of The International Center. “The tradition and community that the Speedway upholds attracts spectators and businesses from around the world to Indiana – truly elevating our state on the world’s stage.”
Home of the Indianapolis 500, the largest single-day sporting event in the world, IMS is an internationally known hub for multiple racing events. Often referred to as the Racing Capital of the World, the venue is home to the United States’ oldest continually operating racetrack and attracts athletes and fans from around the globe to its multifaceted events.
“We are honored to conclude The Center’s 50th anniversary year by honoring Indianapolis Motor Speedway with our award,” said Martin Baier, president and CEO of The International Center. “The chance to celebrate just days before an international race like the Indianapolis 8 Hour is the perfect example of the Speedway’s global impact.”
