International Youth Day
International Youth Day is observed on August 12th and focuses on the trials and triumphs that young people around the world are facing. This holiday was created in the year 2000 by the United Nations as a day of awareness of global issues and how today’s youth are working on finding and creating solutions and making meaningful impacts in the fields of education, community development, environmental groups, and volunteering. This initiative honors the remarkable traits expressed by young people across all walks of life.
Young Leaders on the Rise
Today, it’s important now more than ever to allow young leaders a platform to share their voice and spread their ideas. The Forum of Young Global Leaders is an initiative that’s been launched to help up and coming young global leaders learn from one another and provide challenging perspectives. There are now more than 1,400 Young Global Leaders (YGLs) working to make a positive change in our global community. These YGLs come from all walks of life and include artists, heads of state, CEOs, activists, academics, researchers, journalists, and more.
How Youth Are Leading Global Change
Empowering today’s youth is a crucial aspect helping to shape today’s society. This helps empower young people to take part in shaping the future in a positive way. There are many positive benefits that can be seen from these initiatives including boosting confidence, sharpening decision-making skills, group decision making, and helping their community. This allows unique perspectives, knowledge, and ideas to be shared freely and changes to be made for a more empowered future.
Connection to The Center
The International Center offers a leading-edge Internship program. This program is designed to offer young global leaders the ability to work, learn, and grow in a professional setting. Ololade Omosunlade, the current nonprofit management intern, shares her perspective on the internship. She says,
I chose The International Center because I am drawn to working within a not-for-profit organization with a global outlook. I believe the internship program offers a valuable opportunity for me to gain practical experience and knowledge in both International Development and Nonprofit Management. Also, the networking opportunities available at The International Center are invaluable for my career advancement as it connects with a diverse community and makes a tangible global difference.
Internship programs are a great way to help young global leaders start their professional journey and continue to make an impact in the community.
