Meet the 2024 Global Impression Award Finalist: Svitlana Ramer
After receiving nineteen commendable nominations for this year’s Global Impression Award (GIA), our GIA Committee at The International Center has thoughtfully narrowed down the nominations to three remaining finalists: Svitlana Ramer, Sven Nelson, and Najia Hoshmand. Each of these finalists have made significant contributions and impacts to the global community in Indiana.
Svitlana Ramer, Ph. D.
After completing many academic programs and holding several professional titles throughout her career, Dr. Ramer currently holds the position of Senior Field Engagement & Communications Manager at DAI Global. Beyond her current professional role, she has been heavily involved in the global connectedness and services in Indiana.
As of June 2024, Dr. Ramer holds the title of Honorary Consul of Ukraine to the State of Indiana, the highest level of diplomatic representation of Ukraine in Indiana. In 2022, she founded the Ukrainian Society of Indiana to lead the way in serving Ukrainians when their native land was under invasion. This nonprofit serves the Ukrainian community through cultural, educational, and civic projects in Indiana. More specifically, this organization hosted many firsts for Indiana: Indy’s first Ukrainian festival, the first Ukrainian book club, the first Ukrainian-English bilingual story time at the Indianapolis Public Library, a Governor’s Proclamation recognizing Ukrainian Famine Genocide Day of Remembrance and helped establish Indiana’s first two Ukrainian sister cities.
As another way to serve the Ukrainian community here in Indiana, Dr. Ramer obtained a grant that allowed to offer ESL classes to Ukrainian refugees as a free service. Furthermore, she has spent countless hours seeking to educate Hoosiers about Ukrainian history and what it’s like to experience invasion at local schools and universities, on webinars, radio, and podcast outlets. Beyond that, Dr. Ramer has shown a passion and dedication to serving our community here in Indiana by volunteering with Carmel Clay Parks, Hamilton Humane and serving as a board member at the Coalition for our Immigrant Neighbors.
