Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra Evening Classical Series: Greetings from Finland

April 1, 2022 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Jean Sibelius is Finland’s most respected and best-known composer, and his Violin Concerto—played by Alexi Kenney—is his love letter from his country. Singer, composer, and women’s rights advocate Ida Moberg evokes nature in Soluppgång as she sought to commune with the universe. Einojuhani Rautavaara follows the theme with the haunting Cantus Arcticus, which translates to Concerto for Birds and Orchestra. Sibelius’ Symphony No. 5, written during the difficult years of World War I, brings a theatrical and triumphant conclusion to the concert.
