Meet, Mingle, Listen: An Evening with the IU Mandela Washington Fellows

June 26, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Please join us at this signature event to introduce the Indiana University and surrounding communities to the Mandela Washington Fellows. During the event, you’ll have an opportunity to meet the 25 young leaders who are a part of the 2019 IU Fellowship Cohort. These inspiring individuals represent 17 African nations, where they work as community organizers, disability advocates, defenders fo human rights, women’s rights champions, and pioneers.

This event is designed for making individual connections with a short formal program: a small group of Fellows will share individual stories about the professional passions that led them to be civic leaders.

The anticipated schedule is:

6:00 pm – Meet and Mingle with the Fellows
6:30 pm- Listen to five of the Fellows’ stories
7:30-8:00 pm- More Mingling

About the Mandela Washington Fellowship Program

For the fourth year, Indiana University has been selected as an institute partner for the 2019 Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders. Twenty-five IU Mandela Washington Fellows from across Sub-Saharan Africa will participate in a six-week executive-style professional development institute focused on civic leadership, hosted by IU’s Office of International Development and IUPUI’s Office of International Affairs (OIA). The fellowship provides the IU community with opportunities to network and collaborate with young African leaders while also empowering the fellows through academic coursework, leadership training, mentoring, personal and professional opportunities, and local community engagement.

The fellows will be at IUPUI between June 20 and July 5, with leadership development workshops provided by OIA, the O’Neill School for Public and Environmental Affairs, Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, and the Kelley School of Business.
