Meet The Center: Jayne Howarth
First things first: tell us a little about your background.
I moved to Indiana in the summer of 2016 from the UK with my husband and our elderly cat, Kitty (yes, that is her name). I grew up in Liverpool, where The Beatles are from, and went to the same high school as the lead singer of one of the biggest boy bands in the UK, Gary Barlow of Take That.
What drew you to your role at The International Center?
With my experience moving internationally, I realized how complex the little things can be and how challenging relocating is. Of my first year here I gained so much knowledge and experience about everything involved in relocation and wanted to pass this on to help others settle into their new home and enjoy the wonderful city of Indianapolis.
What are you most looking forward to accomplishing in your new position?
Meeting new people and helping them settle and have new experiences in life. Also, being part of a team that does this and strives to make this better.
If you have travelled or lived abroad, which location was the most impactful on your life? Why?
I have travelled to many locations in Europe but for me, my favorite place visited is Cornwall in southwest England. I spent many holidays (a.k.a., vacations) in this region and have very fond memories of my parents driving 5 hours in the early morning (more than half the length of the UK, to put into perspective how tiny the UK is compared to the US), so my brothers and I could make the most of the Cornish sights and local foods.
What would people be surprised to learn about you?
I almost joined the British Army.
