Meet The Center: Laura Limp
First things first: tell us a little about your background.
I’m a homegrown Hoosier from the southern part of the state, graduating from IU when Pearl Jam hit the scene! I loved living in Chicago; love my Cubbies but hated the weather, so I am migrating south.
What drew you to your role at The International Center?
The mission. I did extensive research after learning about the development position, convinced this opportunity was too good to be true! The International Center is truly a catalyst that connects, convenes and informs public, private and civic constituents, through ideas, strategy and action. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of an organization like this?
What are you looking forward to most in your new position?
Learning everything I can about the Indianapolis global community and working with people from all over the world. We all have so much to offer each other through our unique experiences. I hope to engage with our existing partners and not only increase our fundraising numbers, but grow our constituent base as well.
Oh, and to carry a conversation with Angelique in French! She says I have potential.
If you have traveled or lived abroad, which location was the most impactful on your life? Why?
I have only traveled to Mexico; you didn’t need a passport then. However, I just received my passport and am eager to get my first stamp! Though Europe and Australia sound wonderful, I’m leaning toward visiting Chile. I have an affinity for South America—in fact, it’s the continent I chose for the nameplate outside of my office door. A nice Chilean red on the South Pacific sounds marvelous! Maybe I could telecommute?
What would people be surprised to learn about you?
I worked for Oprah.
